Foundries are energy-intensive operations, especially when one considers that a large part of the energy is consumed as electricity in the melting shop. However, the collected further energy consumption should not be neglected either. But constant optimisation, as specified in DIN ISO 14.001, not only contributes to sustainable management, but also has an effect – even if only on a small scale – on the company’s energy management. The conversion of the blasting houses to direct drive is to be seen under this aspect. Not only the energy consumption will become more sustainable – also a lower susceptibility of the drive to errors and the easier repair possibilities will have a positive effect on the daily operation.
